Many ask what The Best Way to Clean Marble Floors is. If you have recently laid down marble floor tiles in your home and are having a bit of a problem keeping them looking spic and spam, here are a few pointers which will help you. Firstly, make sure you keep your marble free from everyday dust and dirt to begin with either by using a soft broom or vacuum cleaner. Dirt in particular can be ground into the surface and take away its shimmer, so it’s wise to keep the surface clear of it. Once you have a clear surface, then a warm, damp mop or cloth run over the floor should be enough to keep your marble looking just great.

When you have compact fluorescent lamps, you can find it rather easy to move them around the house to use them where you need them the most, and you can put them back with little fuss. The beats lugging around a lamp or even an inefficient flashlight when you want to look for something in spaces that are not normally lit in your home. They are easy to carry and also save money when in use. There are some other great uses for compact fluorescent lamps as well. If you can find some that are not going to be a huge problem in the outdoors, you can use them on your porch. You may find that the tiniest of lamps will give you a lot of light, but won’t be too much if you use the proper type of shade.

There may be many mirrors in your bathroom, and they may be the most important ones in your home. You may have some in your bedroom or dressing room that help you decide how you look in an outfit, or you may have some in other rooms that are purely for decorative touches. However, your bathroom mirrors are ones that you rely on for your appearance each day, and you want them to be good ones. You also want them to be well lit. When these break, which can happen quite easily, you also want to know how to get them replaced. Your bathroom mirrors are not going to do you much good if they are not well lit. If there is any way that you can have them lit with light from the sun, you are going to have the most natural light you can get.

For any kind of event or gathering you are planning, a suitable venue will create the atmosphere. The venue is the location where the event will take place. Finding special event venues is much easier today than it used to be thanks to the Internet. Before starting your search for a location you will need to work out the details of your event. Though having closed cupboards in a kitchen is what you see in most homes, some people prefer to have kitchen shelving instead. This might not sound appealing, but don’t knock it until you have seen it. It gives a kitchen a whole new look, and can be a great way to redecorate where you prepare your food. There are many advantages to having shelves instead of closed cupboards, but there are a few disadvantages to it as well. Think about both before deciding if you would like to have them or not.
When you have open kitchen shelving, you do have to worry about things like dust and grease more so than if you used the closed type of cupboard.

I always thought of the pillows on my mom’s couch as just pillows. I always held one on my lap when I was feeling a bit insecure, or I would put one under my head when I would lie on the couch. I never thought of them as decorative pieces, and that is probably because they were not really thought of that way by my mother either. They were in a way, but they were - in her eyes - meant to be more functional than decorative. What is great is that decorative accent pillows; can be both if that is what you wish.
When choosing decorative accent pillows, you have to first decide if you want them to be for show only, for comfort, or for both.

Wallpaper technology isn’t what it was in Grandma’s day. There are more textures, finishes, patterns, colors and border papers than you can look through in a week of visits to a wallpaper shop. Books containing kitchen wallpaper samples give you hundreds of choices and dozens of color schemes that will do your kitchen justice. So once you decide to wallpaper the kitchen with a fresh new look, do some preliminary analysis to determine the direction you’d like to take. This will save you time shopping and you won’t leave with your mind reeling and confused with too many lovely choices. Your color scheme is arguably the most important elem…

It seems that real fireplaces have gone missing from real homes. More and more people are either covering them up or taking them out completely. Though I understand it can be a pain to care for a fireplace, it is rather easy to take care of them if you are not using them. Instead of getting rid of your fireplace, you may want to leave it for another time. Once you take them out it is almost impossible to get them put back the way they were. Instead of dealing with the real thing, there are a lot of people who choose to have a fake fireplace.
Though I think there are many great ones out there, you should never advertise a fake fireplace as a real one. When I went on my honeymoon, the room that we booked said they had a working fireplace. When we got there we found that we had a fake fireplace instead.

On the other hand, if you have levelors installed and you want to keep them, you can achieve a fresh, warm season look with a simple fishtail swag dressing or pull-back panels of light fiberglass fabric.
Curtain fabric for bathrooms must be mildew-resistant and stand up to frequent laundering, so here a heavy weight fabric is less suitable. If your bathroom window is visible from the street, you can use a lightweight fabric in a triple or quadruple width relative to the window size. This assures privacy while addressing the often moist environment of the bathroom.
In the kitchen, privacy is generally not a concern. However, kitchen curtains tend to need laundering more often than other rooms, due to kitchen grease from cooking. Lined curtains are not the most practical choice, unless you enjoy ironing or your wallet is up to regular professional cleaning. For practicality and good looks, a lightweight polyester fabric is your best bet. There are plenty of good looking patterned fabrics that will satisfy your aesthetic sensibilities without draining your time in upkeep.

I am reminded about everyone having their own tastes every time I go shopping. This is true for clothing as well as home interiors and exteriors. Last year my husband and I were remodeling our kitchen. I could not believe the number of kitchen cabinet designs we had to choose from. I guess I had never thought about this much prior to looking for a new kitchen cabinet design. We ended up doing a great deal of looking and changing our minds before we could make a decision. The entire room centers on the kitchen cabinet designs. We were striving for an open airy feeling in our kitchen area. The area is small and the existing cabinets were stained very dark. The cabinets themselves were in good shape, but the dark stain made the kitchen appear even smaller. One clerk suggested painting the cabinets a light color. She said that it we did not like them we could always replace them, but if they were in good shape, painting them would save us a great deal of money. She showed us the steps needed to prepare the wood for the paint. We decided that it was worth a try. We picked an almond color to match the appliances.

Bathroom wall shelves were very popular – particularly in the spring. People are willing to remodel their houses all year, but in the spring they are willing to do the most work. People who buy bathroom shelves in the winter, autumn, or summer, usually just buy a portable bathroom cabinet that fits over the toilet. Installing a bathroom shelf into the wall, after all, is hard work. People just don’t feel like working hard the rest of the year – they’re already working too hard.
Another interesting thing about working at that job was to see the piecemeal fashion in which people do their remodeling. Bathroom remodeling is a much more chaotic affair than you would think. Whereas people seem to plan out their living rooms, dining rooms, and even bedrooms in detail before they start, people don’t do any such thing with bathrooms. They will buy a bathroom shelf they like, a rug that fits their whim, and some fixtures that happen to be on sale. The bathroom shelves don’t necessarily even match the tile, much less the toilet.

William Merritt Chase was born on November 1st, 1849 in Nineveh, Indiana. After joining and leaving the Navy in 1869, he decided to leave Indiana and head off to New York to study art. While there, he studied at The National Academy of Design. In 1870 he left New York to help support his family in St. Louis, he worked as a still-life painter and started to make a name for himself. The wealthy art collectors in St. Louis decided they wanted to expand his talent in Europe and they sponsored a 5 year stay in Munich in return for paintings.
The portrait of “Lady in Black” is a perfect example of William Merritt Chase’s style. It currently hangs in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The brush strokes, although wide, don’t hide the intricate details of the woman’s face. It’s a piece that leaves the viewer wanting more, and often left me wondering what the “Lady in Black” was thinking about.
If you own a William Merritt Chase painting and you are thinking about selling it, please visit our web site http://www.newportart.com/William_Merritt_Chase.html on getting your painting appraised.

Not all artificial plants look that good, and that is why it is a good idea to shop around when you buy some, and it is also a good idea to spend more. The better looking ones are going to cost you more, but what you are paying for is the quality more so than the size of the plant.

Over the years, there have been many influential artistic movements and Art Nouveau being one of the most popular with the general public. Artists, architects and designers all fell under its spell during the 1880s, producing highly stylized pieces of work. Examples of magnificent buildings in the style can be found all over Europe, particularly in Paris, Prague, Budapest, Barcelona and Berlin. Other locations, such as London, New York City and St. Petersburg also have landmarks in the style.
During the World’s Fair in Paris in 1900, the movement was brought a wider audience in fair. Art Nouveau embraced the modern use of technology on materials such as stained glass and wrought iron, which were used extensively in sculpture and functional items. A classic tradition was observed too in the use of motifs from the natural world, such as flowers or insects. Furniture, jewelry, lighting, textiles and posters were all part of the style.
More information about different artistic styles can be found at our website Newport Art. We purchase all type of artwork and frames.

At the close of his Shinnecock School in 1902, Chase began organizing formal summer teaching trips abroad—to Madrid, Florence, Bruges, Venice, and Haarlem. Although he completed a number of landscapes during these European tours, his major effort in the twentieth century was devoted to the painting of still life and portraits.
In l903, Chase was elected a member of The Ten, the association of prominent New York and Boston Impressionists. Chase replaced John Henry Twachtman who had died the previous year. In the last decade of his career, Chase received high accolades for his art and was given one-man shows in nearly every important city in the country.
William Merrit Chase’s current popularity has been very evident over the last twenty-five years. All major auction houses around the world such as Southeby’s and Christie’s have seen the prices of Chase’s work increase drastically. His continuing popularity and the scarceness of his works has allowed prices to increase significantly. For optimum value, when buying or selling, one should research his best years of painting.
