Although your choice of a shimmery, sequined shawl over that fabulous dress may be beautiful and well suited to a hot dinner date, it won’t work for the wedding. This costume is, in fact, too lovely. You’ll garner a lot of attention, but your hosts may feel you’re trying to upstage them. A classic case of what not to wear. How about the hot dinner date? Maybe your date is the conservative type. Wanting to impress him with your stateliness, you opt for a lovely wool suit and a string of pearls. Guess what? This is another what not to wear mistake.

Every decade has had its standouts, ranging from the bizarre to classic remakes, some of which are still popular today.
