Monday, October 20th, 2008

Well, entertaining at home used to summon up visions of long hours at the stove and last-minute preparations which left us worn out before the party ever began. Wanting to provide a top-notch meal for our guests seemed beyond our reach or reserves of energy. This is simply no longer the case.

These great recipes for entertaining are designed to make the day of your party a relaxed affair. Main dishes that you prepare ahead of time may be gourmet concoctions you can prepare at your leisure anywhere from one to three days prior to party day and which benefit from waiting in the fridge before being served. In fact, every gourmet cook knows that the flavors of almost any complex meat dish improve when the meat, seasonings and sauce ‘marry’ for a day or two sitting in the fridge. Some examples include Cajun-style gumbos, chicken and lamb currys, osso bucho and French ragouts. These easy entertaining recipes make stunning entrees with exotic taste results you wouldn’t get if you cooked and served on the same day.

Too Much Sugar in Charms Blow Pops?

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

If they have never had any, they are going to dive head long into getting as much of it as they can. It’s a lot like the teenager that is stuck home all of the time. Once they taste freedom, they are going to go a bit nuts. To make sure this does not happen, allow them to have something once in a while. Though you may think there is too much sugar in Charms Blow Pops, but because they last so long, they can satisfy the sweet tooth very easily. When it comes to big changes in life, there are often smaller things that make the biggest difference. You may not understand that until you go through something like this, but it will become obvious.

Restaurant Equipment

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

Finding good restaurant kitchen equipment is harder than you might think. Don’t get me wrong — there are some big commercial kitchens they can afford to invest in the latest restaurant equipment as soon as it comes out. They can spend tens of thousands of dollars on new stoves, commercial display cases, ovens and fryers, flat top grills, and gas burners. In the restaurant business, however, this is the exception rather than the rule. Profit margins tend to be pretty slim, so with restaurant equipment as in anything else, every dollar has to count. That is why it was such a relief for me to find a good source for used restaurant equipment.

Neophyte Clam Chowder Recipes

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

No matter how fanciful your fish chowder, the milk base is essential. Begin with a roux of butter and flour, in equal parts. For eight cups of chowder, you’ll need about three tablespoons each, of butter and flour. Using a whisk, over low to medium heat, combine the butter and flour until thickened. Slowly, add a quart of milk. You can add more milk later, as the pot fills up. To this mixture, add two large, cooked, diced potatoes. The starch in the potatoes will help to further thicken the soup. Save the potato water and add to the fish chowder recipe mix as needed. Dice a couple of large onions and add to the pot. By now, you’ve got a neophyte fish chowder.

Starbucks Coffee

Friday, September 19th, 2008

If you are a coffee lover like I am, you have probably tried almost every single type of coffee there is out there on the market. I grind my own coffee at home, but when I am away, I want to know that there is somewhere I can go to get a good cup. Though I think that Starbucks coffee is somewhat overrated, and I hate the yuppie-like ordering techniques some use while there, I do like that it is decent and that I can find it almost anywhere I go. When I book a hotel, I often feel like I have gotten a bonus when there is a Starbucks coffee right there in the lobby.

Wonderful Hampers For Your Grandmother

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

UK hampers are gifts that are usually presented in a wicker basket. The act of giving a hamper has a long history in the Western world and, in the past, was done as a charitable act, using the hamper to give food and other home necessities to the poor. The basket the gift was displayed in was also purposefully chosen as it was a practical household item that could be utilized.

In later times, UK hampers have come to be less presents of necessities and more presents of little treats, such as wine hampers for example. An emphasis is placed on the best items such as gourmet jams, fine chocolates, exotic coffee beans, quality wines and other expensive items that can be had as a indulgence and will keep long enough for the recipient to relax when using the hamper.

There has also been a growing trend to produce specialist UK hampers - wine hampers that are filled with a different range and types of wine, chocolate hampers and bread and cheese hampers. Hobby hampers are an even more modern development and are packed not with food but with handy and desired items to please gardeners or DIY enthusiasts, for example. The contents of a hamper are only limited by your imagination!

The flexibility of UK hampers is why it makes such a pleasing gift. They can be adapted to any person and can be packed with anything that would please the recipient. When picking the hamper you want to give, give careful thought to what items the recipient likes - are they a white wine lover? Then wine hampers are a great idea! Are they a gourmet? Then fill the hamper with quality food items. Are they expecting a baby? Why not give them a hamper filled with useful baby products.

UK hampers can be given for any occasion - for birthdays, for hens nights or bachelorette parties, for weddings, for anniversaries, for an expecting mom-to-be and, most popularly, for Christmas.

The Christmas hamper has become all the rage and, in an intriguing twist, customers are buying Christmas UK hampers to use for themselves instead of as a gift for other people. Often crammed with well-loved Christmas treats such as shortbread, chocolate, wine, Christmas pudding and even turkey, they are bought by everyone to be used over the holiday season. Many UK hampers are bought on a payment scheme over the year and then used for the holiday season, helping people afford the price of the wonderful Christmas treats desired over the Christmas period.

There are thousands of companies that concentrate in making hamper gifts and most of them can be found quickly and easily on the internet. Many of them will have pre-packed UK hampers - such as wine hampers or food hampers - and some may let you to personalize a hamper and pack it with items of your choice. Most companies will deliver your hamper, making it a convenient and welcomed gift.

Of course, you don’t have to use a business to create a lovely hamper and it can be even more personal to make your own. When making a hamper, give careful thought to what they might like. Focus on handy items and special products that the recipient may not know to buy for themselves, to make it even more caring. Hampers also work best when packed with items that won’t spoil easily, such as red wine for wine hampers. If you do intend on packing in items that have to be kept cool or will spoil, then make sure the hamper is sent as soon as possible and make sure the recipient understands that the goods must be used quickly.

Meringue Cookies Offer A Heavenly Cloud Of Sweetness

Friday, September 5th, 2008

The cookie looks sturdy enough, but once in your mouth, it melts in a heavenly cloud of sweetness, with an airy quality, just as though you’d bitten into a sugary cloud.
