The goal was to give me more time to spend with my family on Thanksgiving, rather than stuck in the kitchen with a hot oven. The star of the dinner table is typically, the turkey. If you’re still basting that turkey ten times throughout the day, wondering why it takes six hours to cook, instead of the four hours it’s supposed to, listen up. Here’s the secret. Melt a full cube of butter in a measuring cup and add whatever seasonings you enjoy. With your fingers, carefully separate the breast and thigh skin from the meat. Be careful not to split the skin. Enlist someone to help hoist the bird up, while you pour the melted butter in between skin and meat.

During Lent, lentils were eaten in lieu of fish by those too poor to buy fish. This smallest of lentils, the black beluga lentil derives its name from its appearance when cooked, shiny and black, resembling the prized Beluga caviar.

If you are not been introduced to the interesting yet relaxing and extremely rewarding pursuit of bird watching, you will first of all need to get some basic bird watching supplies. The right equipment can make your hobby so much more satisfying. One of the first things you should do is purchase a good pair of binoculars. A moderately priced pair designed for daytime use should do fine. You don’t need any extra bells and whistles like night vision, that is unless you want them. Binoculars aren’t the only thing you’ll need for bird watching. You will also need a way to bring in the birds and keep them happy. Happy birds equal more bird watching opportunities.

What does Santa’s desk look like? Especially, at Christmastime, Santa’s desk is just as cluttered as other desks are in busy offices. On one side are stacks of Santa letters from children all over the world waiting to be answered. On the other side are several volumes of his naughty and nice lists that have to be amended each day. And of course, there is a plate full of Mrs. Claus’ famous chocolate chip cookies and delicious hot cocoa for the frequent snack breaks. Most important is the calendar counting down the days till the most important night of the year!

What could be the best winter holiday? Skiing down a slope of pristine snow while joyously watching your family having the same enjoyment is as close to perfection as anyone can get. The wind is in your face, the weather is just cold enough for snow, the resort is perfect, and everyone in the family is having the time of their lives. Then you wake up. The resort is old, there is little to no snow because the resort is too cheap to use the fake snow, and your bed is so old you can’t sleep. What is wrong with this picture? Why isn’t the dream the reality? Because someone didn’t do his homework. Before booking a skiing vacation, you should research, research, and then do more research. Your vacation and your standing in the family depend on your making the right decision about the ski resort, so do your homework before you book.
