Bargain Shopper

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Are you a bargain shopper? After growing up around various women, I’ve come to believe that most women are. You can deem this bogus if you like, but how many women do you know that aren’t always in search of those great deals on clothing and shoes? I have to laugh at my wife and daughters when they tell me that they found this great deal of a pair of boots, or a new jacket. It’s funny because they already have a number of them. How many pairs of shoes do you need? Well, apparently many women need a pair for each outfit. I have come to the simple conclusion that this ritual will not be ending any time soon, so I just thank goodness each one of my girls is a bargain shopper.

When they are drilled to make blowing easier, they fetch an even higher price. As with anything else, not all conch shells are created equal. As a matter of fact, there is a huge variety among them. Building Retaining Wall Ideas and How To Build A Retaining Wall

Monday, January 5th, 2009

The building and construction of retaining wall may look complicated, but given the right tools and help from your neighbourhood you could actually shape and build up your own retaining wall. Among the common retaining wall materials are stone (natural and precast), bricks, concrete, hard wood, steel, or railroad ties. The material to use depends on the purpose of your retaining wall. That is to say you need bigger stone blocks or concrete masonry if you’re leveling a steep sloping yard, and you need smaller stone blocks if you’re only building a garden retaining wall.

Here’s how to build a retaining wall for a raised flower bed.

1. Outline the shape of your garden retaining wall: circular, rectangular, rectangular with curved edges or what have you.

2. Mark your outline with a spray paint or stake and ropes and measure the dimension.

3. Take the measurement to your favorite construction store and order your customized pre-cast concrete stone block with lip lock system that conforms to the shape of your retaining wall when assembled.

4. Dig about 12 inches deep trench ensuring that it’s as level as possible. Lay leveling sand or patio paver base in the trench compacting it with hand packer to ensure a level solid base. Use your ground leveling tool to check if the solid base is perfectly leveled.

5. Lay each base row blocks ensuring that it’s flat using a carpenter’s level. Repeat the process until all base row blocks are laid before checking the level again with a ground level to check if it’s aligned and perfectly flat. Perfectly leveling the base row saves you time later when you’re laying the top rows.

Tip: Knock the flange off using a chisel and a mallet for the base blocks for easy leveling.

6. Lay the top rows with the joints staggered with the lower row. You may need to cut a block in half using a masonry wet saw to make this happen. Ensure that the lip at the back of the block interlocks with the top of the lower row. Lay all the top rows to achieve the desired height of your flower bed and - voila - you just built your garden retaining wall.

Tip: Install a perforated pipe for a higher retaining wall to ensure proper drainage of your flower bed.

Building a retaining wall is made easier with pre-cast stone blocks you can buy from landscaping or home improvement stores. Now, there’s no excuse why you can’t add a focal point in your garden with a retaining-wall-raised flower bed.

With Increasing Pet Meds Cost, Save with Pet Meds Coupons

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Pet medications can become increasingly costly, but there are some ways where you can explore to save money on pet meds. This is especially the case when it comes to pets meds that are used on a regular basis for maintenance purposes, such as flea and tick prevention medicine and heartworm prevention medicine. Before paying full retail price for your dog or cat’s medication consider some money saving strategies. In this article you’ll learn three top ways to cut costs. By implementing one or more of them you can keep more money in your wallet while taking good care of your pet.

One way to reduce your pets med cost is to buy generic. Just as humans have generic medications, pets do as well. Ask your veterinarian whether generic brand medication is available for your pet. If you are looking for something like a flea control product, you could even check local pet stores and discount department stores to see if their products are cheaper than what your vet has to offer. While these brands may be well known names and not generic, they are still probably going to cost less than what is available from the veterinarian’s office.

The second strategy you can use to save money on pets meds is by using coupons. This applies not only to items of a medical nature purchased from stores, but also medicine purchased from the vet. Some of the major companies whose products are available through your vet have coupons that can be found online or are even sent in the mail to customers on the mailing list. Ask your veterinarian if they know how you can acquire coupons or money saving deals on the products your pet requires.

The third way you can often save money on pet meds is to buy online. The Internet is a fantastic source for bargains in every category including pet supplies and medications. There are companies like 1800PetMeds and Pet Care RX who offer deals and discounts on many commonly used pet medications. These companies and others like them will deliver the medication to your door, often for less than it would cost you to drive across town and buy it from the vet. Try searching for coupon codes before shopping online with any vendor, as this can reduce the price even more.

Grinding Teeth Mouth Guards to Sports Mouth Guards

Monday, January 5th, 2009

There are two appropriate ways where a dental mouth guard can be properly used. One is to prevent injury to the teeth from participation in sporting events. The other is to prevent grinding of the teeth during sleep or even during the day which can lead to TMJ disorder. First, let’s take a look at how a mouth guard made by a dentist can be beneficial to athletes. While there are mouth guards you can purchase in sporting goods stores or even at your local pharmacy these may not provide the protection you need. These guards, at least in the drugstore, can be found in the tooth care aisle.

The store bought mouth guards come in small, medium, large or one size fits all. It is best to go with the one size fits all unless you are absolutely sure of your correct size. These guards are usually fitted to your mouth by first dipping the guard in very hot water until it becomes pliable, then placing it in your mouth and gently biting down. This creates an impression of your teeth and when the guard cools you’ve got a custom fit that may be used for sports or teeth grinding depending on the instructions on the package.

While this sounds like an economical and easy way to get the mouth protection you need, it may not always be the best way. If you are suffering from temporomandibular joint dysfunction a store bought guard may even make it worse, as the package may state. Also if you are in a high contact sport a store bought guard may not hold up as well as one crafted by the dentist and the fit may not be perfect. In both cases, it is probably better to see your dentist and have an appropriate guard made for you. It’s not too expensive and ensures you get the right mouth guard for your needs.

To get a dental mouth guard, the first thing you’ll need to do is schedule a consultation with your dentist. He or she will examine your mouth and give you an evaluation of your condition. If they see evidence of bruxism this will certainly be addressed and the right guard will be created. Even if you are going in for a sports guard the dentist can make sure the guard not only protects your teeth from impact but fits perfectly thanks to the state of the art methods they use to create these custom guards. After a mold of your mouth is taken, your guard will be created and your dentist will call you when it is ready to be picked up. They will also advise you of proper care and use.

Hooded Fleece Vests to Reversible Fleece Vest

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Anyone seeking a practical yet fashionable addition to their fall and winter wardrobe should think about the hooded fleece vest. Fleece is a versatile and warm material that can be either synthetic or natural. When many people think of fleece they imagine shearing sheep, which is in fact where some fleece comes from. However a great many of the fleece vests, pullovers and jackets on the market today are synthetic and made from materials like polyester, often blended with other fabrics for ultimate wearability.

While most vests of this type zip up and do not feature a hood, you will find that a vest with a fleece hood attached can be very useful indeed. If the wind picks up and your ears get cold the hood will keep them warm. Perfect for kids of all ages, a fleece vest with a hood can be layered over most any long sleeve top and under any jacket or coat. Microfleece is an especially light and stretchy variety of fleece that is great for that layered look. While the hood doesn’t have to be worn it is nice to know it’s there in case temperatures drop.

You’ll find this kind of vest available for men, women and kids from many different manufacturers. The North Face, Columbia and Polartec are a few top companies who produce fine quality fleece apparel. There are even hooded vests made from fleece available from companies like Bebini which sells European infant wear and Ethical Products Inc. which sells clothing for dogs. You can outfit the whole family in stylish warmth this season, even your four-legged family members.

One of the best resources for finding the ideal hooded fleece vest for your particular needs is the Internet. With a search engine query you can track down vests from lots of different manufacturers and stores. Some online retailers offer shipping discounts for customers who order a certain amount of merchandise from them. Whether you buy your vests online or in a traditional brick and mortar store you’re sure to appreciate the warm softness of fleece when the weather gets cold. When considering what size to buy, keep in mind you will likely be layering over a long sleeve top. Most of the time your normal size will work fine for a fleece vest but if that turns out too tight once it is layered you may want to go up a size or find a lighter top to go underneath.

Polo Cashmere Sweaters to Silk Cashmere Sweaters

Monday, January 5th, 2009

The polo sweater is a wardrobe essential for both men and women seeking a stylish yet casual top to wear with jeans or slacks. These sweaters have button collars and look just like a polo golf style shirt except they are usually long sleeve. If you are someone who enjoys the finer things in life or would like to start, consider polo cashmere sweaters. They come in a variety of styles and colors for men and women, and range in price from reasonable to extravagant.

Even the cheapest cashmere sweater is going to cost more than your average sheep’s wool sweater. Cashmere comes from certain goats and can only be harvested in the spring by combing or shearing. Separating the fine cashmere fibers from the denser fibers is a painstaking task. The result after cleaning, treating and spinning the wool is a fabric that is flexible, light and extremely soft. Some cashmere sweaters are fuzzier than others due to longer fiber length. These are less likely to develop pilling than the short fiber sweaters.

After you’ve chosen your polo sweater made from cashmere you’ll need to know the proper way to care for it. Cashmere should never, ever be machine washed or dried. The tag will usually say Dry Clean Only but this is expensive and unnecessary most of the time. Many experts recommend laundering cashmere garments by hand in a basin filled with lukewarm water and a squirt of gentle shampoo, then laying the sweater flat to dry. Never hang cashmere because this can ruin the shape of the sweater. A folding square like those used in department stores can help you fold your sweaters like a pro.

Many stores carry polo cashmere sweaters. Consider using the Nextag service to find them or browsing Gap, J. Crew or Macy’s for a start. Of course you may also be looking for a sweater by the Ralph Lauren Polo brand name. This brand is a cheaper version of Ralph Lauren couture and can be found in fine department stores around the world. No matter where you buy your cashmere sweaters or what style of sweater you choose, you are sure to adore the warmth and beauty of real cashmere wool.
