Automatic litter box for your cat

Friday, January 1st, 2010

New technology is a fantastic thing indeed. Innovative gadgetry is’nt only for people, either. Pets now have an array of techy inventions from which to choose in their own lineup of accessories. The automatic cat litter boxes are just one example that proves to be a people pleaser as well. I’ve not met anyone who enjoys cleaning the cat litter box. This chore ranks right next to cleaning my oven. While the automatic cat litter boxes are a bit more pricey than the standard manual tray, the extra bucks are well spent in automating this task. There are a variety of manufacturers and designs, but the system is essentially the same across brands.

The system consists of a tray receptacle, a cover, a sensor and an electrically operated rake (some also run on batteries) which goes to work some minutes after kitty has exited the box. The number of minutes elapsed before the raking begins is programmed into the device, ranging on average from 10-20 minutes later. The rake scoops the poop into another tray below. ‘Number 1′ deposits are also addressed automatically to prevent puddles! So the automatic cat litter box does it all.

Check out an automatic litter box at an online pets and pet supplies site, or at a local pet store near you!

Finding Pet Friendly Hotels

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

Now that I’m retired, I plan on traveling a lot. I’m not going to go so far as to buy a huge motor home and essentially live out on the road for months at a time, but I do plan on logging hundreds of miles behind the wheel. Driving to the various destinations on my list of must-see places is not only more economical than flying, but will also give me a chance to go on last-minute detours if I come across anything interesting. Plus, it’s easier to bring my dogs along with me — provided I can find pet friendly hotels to stay at along the way. I know some people think that traveling with pets is a hassle, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I would just be too lonely if I didn’t have my pooches keeping me company 24/7.

Do You Know What The Best Hamster Cages Are?

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

The most common types of pet hamsters are Dwarf hamsters and Syrian hamsters. Both of these hamsters needs different types of care and different types of housing, so the best hamster cages may be different depending on the breed of hamster you decide on and the amount of hamsters to be housed.

Dwarf hamsters can be kept in the same cage as other Dwarves, but it is essential to know the sex of Dwarf hamsters if they will be living in the same cage, because an owner can very quickly end up with more than he or she can manage. However, experts say that even Dwarf hamsters are not guaranteed to get along forever, so having an extra cage just in case is vital. Dwarf hamsters love to climb and crawl through tubes. Some manufacturers also sell additional tubes that may be attached to the existing tubes, this makes the cage far larger. The best hamster cages will also have an exercise wheel and a water bottle.

Wire hamster cages are great for the owner, since cleaning is as easy as clicking off the wire, but hamsters as well like chewing and they will chew on wire bars if they have been in a cage for an extended period of time. It is essential to offer a pet hamster things to chew on for amusement.

Syrian hamsters are quite different from their Dwarf hamster counterparts. They always favour to be caged by themselves, even when they are from the same litter or were caged together at a pet store. The desire to be solitary only grow as a Syrian hamster gets older. They will fight and seriously hurt each other if they are not separated.

Unlike Dwarves, Syrian hamsters like ground space as opposed to numerous tubes, but they still love to have a wheel to play with. Syrian hamsters as well love having various levels in their home, which can be connected with ramps or even ladders.

The best hamster cages are those that provide your lovable pets lots of room to roam, play, sleep, exercise and just sit and watch whats going on around them. They require room for their food and water, their exercise wheel, and of course their toys. When these conditions are met, any hamster will live a long, happy, healthy life.

A Small Chicken Coop-Is It For You?

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

Keeping chickens is growing more and more common, and it is not just done on farms any longer. There is a boom in keeping chickens in the suburbs and even in cities. Small chicken coops allow non-farmers to furnish healthy, yummy eggs for their family while as well creating a sense of self-sufficiency and a connection with our agricultural roots.

Eggs produced by hens brought up on pasture are nutritionally superior to eggs currently sold in supermarkets. They have less cholesterol, less saturated fat, more vitamin A and E, more omega-3 fatty acids, and more beta-carotene. Organic eggs raised in your backyard are tastier, too.

Chickens are in reality a lot like other pets – they bond with their owners, they get along well with children, and like any pet, they are full of surprises. It is now possible to have your very own healthy, happy flock of chickens, not to mention a non-stop supply of choice eggs, in your own backyard. All that is requisite is a well-designed chicken coop and some land where the hens can move around.

To have a flourishing and happy flock of chickens, they first need satisfactory floor space. Six square ft of floor space per chicken is ideal. In addition, the chicken coop has to be dry and well-ventilated, with plenty of oxygen. Good ventilation also allows for unneeded moisture, ammonia, and carbon dioxide to escape. If the chickens are dry, then they will stay warm and safe, even in cold weather, and the happier and healthier the hens are, the more eggs they will lay.

A added advantage of raising hens is that they make high quality manure from their droppings that is rich in nitrogen. This manure is a natural fertilizer and can be recycled in to the owners garden or even sold. The average chicken produces 250 to 300 eggs per year, so spare eggs can as well be sold to bolster the family income.

There are many advantages to owning a small chicken coop. Besides the delectable eggs and valuable manure, a small chicken coop is portable. Plus, raising chickens is a fantastic chance for children to learn lessons about responsibility, hard work, and the value of money. With all these benefits, it is not surprising that raising chickens has become such a popular interest.

Inhibit Dog Biting.

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

All responsible dog owners should have their dogs trained in the concept of ‘bite inhibition’.

To most dogs, there is never the intention to ‘Bite’ as biting goes. The problem is the dog has never been taught that it cannot use any force in its jaws when it is ‘mouthing’ the body parts, clothes or belongings of a human being.

Most dogs get taught this valuable trait by their mothers and their siblings or members of their social pack.

We humans create the problem by removing the puppy from this environment before it has learned the art of bite inhibition.

It is therefore up to the new dog owner to teach his pet bite inhibition.
