Summer Wedding Dresses for hot weddings

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

If you are getting married in the summer, like so many other brides, you want to look great without passing out. June is the most popular month for weddings, so it stands to reason that summer wedding dresses are the most common in the stores. Oddly, this is not necessarily the truth. If you look around your bridal store of choice, you may notice that many dresses there look like they are made for winter weddings instead. Even expensive wedding dresses can be to hot to bear for a summer wedding.

Heavy materials are the standard for white wedding dresses, but they are not the best idea in the summer. These materials do not breathe like you want them to, leaving you feeling like you are soaking wet under your summer wedding dresses. Unless you marry in the winter, you should pass on the very thick materials and the ones that have heavy extras sown onto the gown. Those can add heft and also heat to a wedding dress very easily. Skip dresses with heavy layers as well.

Shorter summer wedding dresses may seem like the only way to stay cool, but you can wear a long dress and be okay if you find the right one. As with the rest of the dress, look for something that is light and has very few layers. Remember that even layers of light material can get very hot if there are too many of them. If you want to wear something a bit shorter, keep it below the knee if you are having a formal wedding. You can also get summer wedding dresses that have partially removable skirts so that you can look more formal for the wedding but then can take some off to cool off after the ceremony is over.

University Student Health Insurance

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

It’s often said that beauty is wasted on the young and the reason that is, is because the young have never been old and so have nothing to compare their youth too. Apart from youthful good looks, young people are far less likely to get sick which is why they can save themselves a packet on health care. Of course, we’ve all heard the sob stories of the starving students, and although they might be able to get University Student Health Insurance at ridiculous cost, they will still argue that it’s outrageous when compared to their pitiful income. Many students in the present day graduate with huge student loans. Loans which are impossible for older generations to comprehend. Starting life with debt up to your neck and round it before you’ve even started a career is enough to upset the mental health and wellbeing of anyone, but hey! No one ever said life was easy. All the kids of today need to know is that we’re a long time old, so it’s crucial to make the most of every day of health and happiness. YOU are not your loan, so don’t let the material upset your balance and perspective on life.

Learn how to speak French

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Although I was able to learn French fast, it took me considerably longer to master speaking a foreign language. A lot of people think it is hard to learn how to speak French, but I’ve always had a sort of natural facility for languages.

Grew up bilingual

I grew up speaking German and English in my household, so I was already bilingual before I even tried speaking French. I actually started off pretty casually. I had a friend who was a native French speaker, and she agreed to be my conversation partner. Besides that, I used an online French course and some software that had been recommended to me. It definitely helped to master the basics in my spare time. I did not really have time to take another course at that moment, so it was nice to be able to learn the really simple stuff on my own.

Overseas courses

Still, I never mastered how to speak French until I finally took a course overseas. I did a study abroad program, staying in a French academy in Paris. It was one of the best experiences of my life. Learning to speak a foreign language is easy if you can really immerse yourself in the culture. When you have to know how to speak French just to get by, order food, or get directions, you can pick it up pretty quickly. The thing is, you don’t even really need to work on it that much. The desire to learn is so strong when you’re trying to immerse yourself in a culture that it comes almost naturally.

Practice makes perfect

My sister had a lot more trouble learning how to speak French, and I know her experience isn’t uncommon. If you have a natural affinity for foreign languages, learning one can be extremely easy. Still, even for these people, studying French abroad is probably the best way to go. It is true that the more you work on something, the faster you pick it up. If you work on a new language for several hours every day, learning a new skill like French will take you no time at all.

5 Ways to Liven Your Audience

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Has a boring speaker ever put you to sleep? Your head begins to nod as you fight off the urge to slip mercifully into the Land of the Z’s. Or has your mind ever wandered during someone’s dull presentation? Although you appear to listen intently, what you are really thinking about are the million tasks waiting for you at home.

Sure, this has happened to all of us, more than we would like to admit. However, don’t let it happen to you when you are the speaker. The key to keeping your audience from taking a mental exit is to involve them in your talk. Yes! Studies show that the more you involve your audience, the more they retain. Why? Because they are listening!

You can involve your audience in several ways, and I have listed 5 of my favorites below. Select those that will work well with your presentation and that feel genuine to you. If it feels uncomfortable, it will look uncomfortable—so don’t use it.

1. Ask questions.
Questions will cause your audience members to try to think of an answer. They can’t help it – it is simply how our brains are wired. If the energy in the room starts to drop, ask a question and select a member of your audience to respond. Then, thank him or her for participating and move on to the next person. Don’t worry about loosing control of your audience. Sales guru Brian Tracy emphasizes, “He (she) who asks questions is in control.” I personally prefer questions like “How many of you . . .,” and then I ask for a show of hands. These closed-ended questions get your audience involved both mentally and physically.

2. Finish your sentence.
For example, if you said to your audience, “Lions and tigers and bears . . .” and did not finish the sentence, what do you think they would say? As long as they are familiar with the movie The Wizard of Oz, they would respond with “Oh my!” This is a fun way to get your audience to participate. If they know the answer, they will blurt it out. If they don’t, you answer it. Choose something that should be so obvious they will absolutely get it.

3. High-five.
This is one of my personal favorites, and if you have attended one of my talks you have experienced it firsthand. If you ever feel like the energy in the room is heavy, you can change it by using this technique. Simply ask a question (remember the power of asking questions). Ask, “Is this good stuff?” When your audience responds with “Yes,” say “Then, turn to the people on either side of you and give them a high-five and say ‘This is good stuff!’” Most people get a kick out of it. However, if you have an individual in your audience who does not want to participate, don’t worry about it. Some people simply just don’t want to have fun.

4. Do exercises.
I learned this trick from the famous millionaire T. Harv Ecker when I took his “Train the Trainer” course. He says, “Get your audience to do the work.” To accomplish this, ask them to break into groups of two or three (with people that they don’t know) and give them an exercise that is congruent with your presentation. Afterward, ask them to share openly with the rest of the group and thank them for doing so.

5. Give them candy.
Reward your audience for participating, and they will participate even more. Simply ask a question and when someone answers it, gently throw a small piece of candy to that person. I find that chocolate works best. You will find that it becomes a game and people will compete for the chocolate. I don’t use this throughout my entire speech, only for a few minutes in the middle of my talk.

There are many other ways and techniques to get your audience involved. What is important as a speaker is for you to come up with as many different ways as you can think of that are appropriate for your audience and for you as a speaker. Believe me, your audience will thank you.

Giving Advice on Someone’s Else’s Relationship, Don’t Do it!

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

If you have friends in relationships, which everyone does, at one point or another they’re going to ask for some sort of relationship advice. One of the best advices is to stay out of giving counseling about relationships. Especially your friends, this almost always ends with the individual whom you offered them to help, blaming you for the results, seriously compromising and even losing your friendship.

The person requesting wishes you to team with them, as you would expect. And you might bet that there are not one but two sides to every tale. So, what you do not realize sometimes comes back to bite you. Can you envision a family member coming to you by using a story of an affliction about a guy she’s involved with, labeled as a real man. You go along and tell her she ought to stay with Prince Charming. You eventually find out he’s married, but since she took your recommendation, these things are now, in accordance with her, to blame for ‘ruining her relationship‘. Now when you are asked for some advice about marriages of which you’re not a party, you shouldn’t go there! Avoid it such as a disease.

There are many ways to handle such a request and maintain a solid bond with the individual asking. If you want, it is possible to let them be aware that I’m fine and prepared to pay attention, but that you just but really don’t feel adept to advise them. Let them know that your life connection with them might naturally bias your response, which may perhaps cause a bad decision and you don’t want to interfere in that way. Many people would agree with you, because they’re betting that what they really should do is to vent. The can come out with the final choice on what each one does regardless.

Why have Christian Dating Websites?

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

I once asked a Christian if an atheist could be a good person? I pointed out that that atheist was capable of being kind, considerate, loving, and in general a darn good specimen of a human being. The answer was that came from the Christian was a resounding yes, of course such a non-believer could be all of those things and more. Why then, I asked the Christian, is it so important that within your community of believers is there this unofficial unwritten rule which states that only Christians should date Christians. Even the Christian Dating Websites will kick off a self confessed non Christian! The response from the religious one was that their community has no qualms about non-Christians falling in love and settling down with devout believers so long as they convert to their faith prior to marriage. I came away thinking that we lived in a world segregated by race, creed, and colour, let alone class and national regions, and so long as we as people continued to not get along with our fellows if they didn’t fir neatly into our ‘own kind’ the this world is destine to implode as populations explode.
